Welcome to Home Options |

Important Changes to Home Options - from the 26th January 2012, all existing and new applicants to Home Options will be registered on one Local Authority housing register only. This means that from this date you should only bid on properties that are in your 'primary' area. A letter was recently sent to all active applicants explaining this and highlighting who their primary authority is.
For a short period of time on the 26th of January you may still see properties for other Local Authority areas that you are able to bid on. This is due to a systems overlap - DO NOT BID on these properties. Any bids made will not be valid and will be removed so that they can be used on an alternative property.
If you have any questions please contact the relevant Home Options team.
Applying to Home Options - from the 7th November there will be some changes to the way that new applicants apply to Home Options. Please click here to find out more.
Home Options is the way that people can apply for social housing (council and housing association/registered providers), shared ownership and key worker housing in the council areas of Broadland, Norwich and South Norfolk. The scheme lets you apply for the home of your choice, instead of having to wait for an offer from one of the three councils.
There is limited social housing to rent in the Greater Norwich sub-region and far more households are seeking homes than are available. (Social housing is property let by registered social landlords or housing associations.) You may have to think about alternative options, like renting privately, finding shared housing or lodgings, supported accommodation, or staying at home longer than intended. Each of the Home Options teams can give you advice and support to help you decide which housing option is right for you.
If you are adequately housed and not at risk of homelessness, it is unlikely you will need housing advice; however, anyone with a need for housing will be offered a housing options interview. This is a professional advice service, provided by fully-trained officers, to discuss individual housing need. During the interview you will be able to discuss your personal housing needs and wants, and examine the housing options available to you. What you want or wish for in a home is not the same as a need.
Due to the small amount of social housing and the large number of applicants you are unlikely to be housed through the housing register if you already have a suitable home.
It is important to understand that deliberately making your housing situation worse, giving false information or failing to provide relevant information will affect your housing application. South Norfolk Council, Norwich City Council and Broadland District Council will take action against anyone making fraudulent claims to secure housing in their area.
