Help to stay in your current home in south norfolk

If your current home is in South Norfolk the following options are available to you:

South Norfolk Council aims to offer everyone in their area the opportunity of a decent home and thereby improve the health, welfare, well being and quality of life of everyone who lives there. If you own your home, they can offer advice plus financial help with repairs and adaptations. They provide:

  • Loans to help people meet the Decent Homes Standard (Decent Homes Loan)
  • Safe and Warm Grants
  • Disabled Facilities Grants
  • A Care and Repair Service for people over the age of 60

If you rent your home, they can offer advice on repairs and adaptations. They provide:

  • Advice on repair problems between you and your landlord;
  • Enforcement action where it is needed;
  • Safe and Warm grant help for work to your home which is not the landlord’s responsibility;
  • Disabled Facilities Grants
  • A Care and Repair Service for people over the age of 60.

Safe & Warm Grant and Decent Homes Loan

The Safe & Warm grant is for homeowners and tenants who are on means tested benefits. The grant is for up to £3000, and when the grant funded works are complete the property should reach the Decent Homes Standard.

For more substantial works, the Decent Homes Loan of up to £25,000 may be more appropriate.

Important!

Please note: The Safe and Warm Grant and Decent Home Loan schemes are now suspended until April 2008, and South Norfolk Council cannot consider any further applications for help under these schemes until then.

Safe and Warm Grants and Decent Home Loans are discretionary schemes, aimed mainly at elderly and vulnerable home owners. There has been high demand in 2007, particularly for Safe and Warm Grants, and as a result South Norfolk Council's budget has been used up. They expect the schemes to be available again in April 2008 so please revisit this page then to find out if you qualify.

Disabled Facility Grants are not affected by this.

Disabled Facilities Grant

The Disabled Facilities Grant, of up to £25,000, is designed to help people with a disability to make necessary changes to their homes

What the grant can be used for

Adequate access into and around your home;

  • Suitable washing and toilet facilities;
  • Facilities for preparation of food;
  • A suitable room to sleep in;
  • Adequate heating facilities;
  • Adequate safety.
