Financial help that may be available to assist you to rent a property in Broadland







If you wish to rent a property in Broadland the following options may be available to assist you:

Damage Deposit and Rent in Advance Scheme

What is it?

The Council will pay you a loan towards the cost of damage deposits and rent in advance. You will be responsible for paying back the loan. In certain circumstances it may be possible to offer a ‘finders fee. This may be paid to a landlord or their agent where they assist an applicant to acquire a suitable property and thus avoid a homelessness application.

Who can apply?

To qualify for assistance you must:

  • Be homeless or threatened with homelessness within 28 days
  • Have a local connection with the Broadland Area
  • Have a priority need under the homelessness legislation or, as a consequence of our providing assistance, prevent someone who the Council has a full duty toward, being accepted as homeless in the Broadland Area
  • Not have the means to secure accommodation themselves 
  • Be capable of living independently in the community
  • Be a suitable tenant

Rent Rescue Scheme

What is it?

This scheme is designed to assist those people who may have fallen behind on their rent through no fault of their own.

Who can apply?

To qualify for assistance you must:

  • Be homeless or threatened with homelessness within 28 days
  • Have a local connection with the Broadland Area
  • Have a priority need under the homelessness legislation or, as a consequence of our providing assistance, prevent someone who the Council has a full duty toward, being accepted as homeless in the Broadland Area
  • Not have the means to secure accommodation themselves 
  • Be capable of living independently in the community
  • Be a suitable tenant
  • Owe no more than two months rent
  • Have not built up their arrears wilfully
  • Have a landlord who is prepared to withdraw notice if the arrears are cleared
